What are the general rules regarding wearing pantyhose with open-toe shoes?

What are the general rules regarding wearing pantyhose with open-toe shoes? What are the general rules regarding wearing pantyhose with open-toe shoes? I am under the impression that pantyhose are a no-no with open-toe shoes.

The general rule is neutral /nude color pantyhose are not “in style” with open-toe shoes like dressy sandals. Colored stockings such as sheer black hosiery or tights can be stylish with open toed shoes or sandals. If you want to go bare legged your legs should  have a nice color. You can use a self tanner on your legs if you want to wear sandal style shoes without stockings in the winter. Otherwise wait until summer when your legs are tan to wear them.  That said, women are creating their own style today and some women wear nude color stockings /pantyhose with sandals. If you think something is flattering on you and you feel confident wearing the outfit go for it!
