A black dress can be worn to a black tie event but any color gown that flatters your skin tone is appropriate for a black tie event. Black tie merely means the function is formal and commences after six o’clock in the evening, or after sundown in the winter months. Check the invitation for the location and the time of the event to judge the formality of the event. For very formal events a floor length gown is appropriate. For example going to the White House or some very special occasion is very formal. If the event is at a private home, dance, party, etc. many women wear cocktail dresses around knee-length or separates if they are as elegant as a dress. For example a velvet top with a full satin skirt that hits at your ankles or satin pants with a sequin top. However a floor length dress is always appropriate for a black tie event.
What Message Are You Sending By The Colors You Wear?
Believe it or not what colors you are wearing can describe how you are feeling and what type of person you are. If you are wearing bold colors such as red or yellow you will be noticed fairly quickly. These colors are good “attention getters.” You are probably an outgoing, confident, and warm person with high self-esteem.
Party Dress Codes
It is almost always exciting and fun when a party invitation arrives. However sooner or later we have to start to think about what we will wear. When types of “dress codes” are indicated such as “Smart Casual”, “Cocktail Party attire,” “Tailgate Party”, “festive”, “cocktail chic” or etc. it can throw us for a loop. Where should one begin to figure out what any of these types of dress codes mean?
