What can a guest wear to a graduation ceremony?

What can a guest wear to a graduation ceremony? A graduation ceremony can take place at different times of the year, at different venues, and different times of the day. In addition who is graduating, a kindergartener, grade or high schooler or college student? Will you be in photos with the graduate? Will you be attending an event afterward? All of these things have to be taken into account when deciding what to wear to a graduation ceremony.

Winter or spring graduations require different clothing as well as if the graduation will be held inside or outside (rain or shine). Usually you can dress more casually for morning and early afternoon graduations. Something like a skirt or pants and blouse  or sweater or a dress with flats or pumps. If the graduation is for a college graduate held late in the day followed by a cocktail party or dinner you can wear dressy separates or a LBD. The goal is that you should look nice and be comfortable no matter what you wear.

Dress Codes
It is almost always exciting and fun when a party invitation arrives. However sooner or later we have to start to think about what we will wear. When types of “dress codes” are indicated such as “Smart Casual”, “Cocktail Party attire,” “Tailgate Party”, “Festive”,  “Cocktail Chic” or etc. it can throw us for a loop. Where should one begin to figure out what any of these types of dress codes mean?

What shoes & accessories to wear to a high school graduation? My daughter is graduating in June from HS as Valedictorian. I am a light skinned African female. My dress is a tea length one shoulder fuchsia with tulle. I want to stand out.
Congratulations on your daughters graduation from high school and being selected as Valedictorian! You must be extremely proud. Your tea length, one shoulder, fuchsia color dress with tulle sounds awesome. However it seems a little bit dressy for a high school graduation. The focus and attention should be on your daughter. This is a very special event in her life. To look chic it is better to be under dressed instead of over dressed. Think about a simple style dress in a color and style that flatters your figure type that fits perfectly (not too tight, too baggy, too short or too low). Draw attention to your face area with a up-to-date hairstyle, flattering makeup, and a pair of statement earrings or a statement necklace. Wear classic pump or slingback style shoes that go with your dress. You will stand out looking stylish and in good taste.
