Wearing the Athleisure Trend

The athleisure trend is gaining momentum because women are embracing healthier lifestyles and demanding more clothing that is functional. Many women have embraced wearing workout clothes (sporty & luxe) all day long, all around town. It is now totally acceptable to wear your athleisure outfit all day, every day except when going to work in most offices. Athleisure is about comfy clothing such as baggy yoga pants, leggings, sports bras, tanks, trousers and sneakers.

Can women of all ages wear the athleisure trend?
Pulling off the athleisure trend at any age has to do with your body type/shape and the styles you choose to wear. When you are young and in great shape you can wear just about anything and look good. When you are over 30 and in fabulous shape you can pull it off but it gets a bit tricky after 35. Stretchy tops and bottoms are not flattering as you head into your 40’s and  “middle age”. There are some styles that are not skin tight that look good on fuller more mature figures but looking at some sites like Nike.com and LuLuLemon.com there are not many flattering styles for older gals.

How to style athleisure after your workout?
Athleisure wear can look chic when styled with trendy sneakers, a structured leather jacket, heels. or a long coat and scarf.  A shirt tied around the waist also says style. Add a hat or cool accessories such as mirrored sunglasses, bangles, a sports watch or necklace to ramp up your style when you leave the gym. Always pair tight tops with loose bottoms and pair tight bottoms with loose tops.
