There is no perfect basic wardrobe that applies to all. A basic wardrobe takes into consideration lifestyle or clothing for all of our activities.  If you are a hockey coach your wardrobe is going to be a lot different  than a corporate lawyer's. However when we choose a basic article of clothing it is something we plan on wearing many times (getting our money’s worth). These items are like good investments since they will reward us many times in the future. When buying your basics purchase quality pieces, not necessarily the most expensive.

It is almost always exciting and fun when a party invitation arrives. However sooner or later we have to start to think about what we will wear. When types of "dress codes" are indicated such as "smart casual", "semi-formal," "vineyard casual", "festive",  "cocktail chic" or etc. it can throw us for a loop. Where should one begin to figure out what any of these types of dress codes mean?

To mix prints takes even the most seasoned fashionista into dangerous trend waters. In the fashion world mixing prints and patterns was once a fashion don’t, but today it is a ragging fashion trend that continues to persist season after season. Mixing prints for work or play can be done tastefully, boldly, and artistically. So if you want to expand you fashion sense play around with prints, patterns, and textures. Here are some guidelines to follow when mixing prints.

When choosing things to wear, we want to accentuate the positive. The first thing to think about when selecting prints and patterned clothing is scale. Large prints will call attention to you and your size. Small women don't look good in clothing with large prints and patterns. Large women are already noticeable and will just call attention to their size when wearing large prints and patterns. Scale the prints to your size and you're "good to go."

Hot summer fashions are featuring stripes! Fashions with stripes are going in all directions and on everything from shoes, handbags, tops, bottoms and dresses.  The great thing about stripes is everyone can update their look wearing stripe accessories like shoes, scarves, handbags, etc. or clothing that has striped trim or accents and give their look an instant fashion update.

The prom is coming up soon making it necessary to plan ahead if you want to find the perfect prom dress. Begin by searching magazines and online to see what is available and get an idea of what’s out there and price ranges. Then you can set a budget (ball park figure) for what you need to spend. Keep in mind you’ll need shoes, jewelry, purse and a wrap in addition to a prom dress. These items should be included in your budget. If you are getting your hair done and a manicure and pedicure they will need to be included also.

January is a good time to hit your favorite make-up counter and get your make up re-freshed. Many cosmetic companies offer make up lessons, makeovers, etc. this time of year. Some are free with purchases of their products. Try some new colors and lift your spirits as well as your look with a professional make up session. In addition a new hair cut, color or hair style will keep you looking up to date.

Most of us would like to improve our life in many areas when we begin a New Year. Saving money, getting in shape, improving our minds, etc. are some universal goals many strive to accomplish at the beginning of every New Year.
