Glitter at Its Very Best

Cartier and America
Legion of Honor, San Francisco

Thru May 21, 2010

If you're lucky enough to be in San Francisco before May 21st this exhibit is a must see. It is filled with fabulous bling to drool over.

It is a chance to see beautiful jewelry plus the workmanship and design that made Cartier "jeweler to kings, king of jewelers."

The “Star of South Africa” brooch, a mere 47.69 carats, will dazzle all.  It was discovered in 1869 and was the first significant South African discovery. It is a real icebreaker!

Also on display, the Hope or Blue Diamond in all its glory plus the glitter of gorgeous jewels worn by royalty, movie stars and wealthy society matrons is to die for.

A Hindu necklace “Tutti Frutti” made of Indian gemstones, commissioned by Daisy Fellows, heiress to the Singer Sewing Machine Company will delight. Believe it or not I over heard a docent say that she only wore it once.

Some of Grace Kelly’s jewels are on display including her engagement ring a 10.47 carat emerald cut ring. She wore it in “High Society” her last film.  If you can’t get to the show you can rent the movie for a peak.

Diamond and ruby pieces given to Elizabeth Taylor by Mike Todd are show stoppers, Gloria Swanson’s, bracelets and Barbara Hutton’s famous panther jewelry are among other glitter that sparkles.
