Choosing Mother of the Bride or Mother of the Groom Outfits

Tips on Choosing Your Wedding Apparel

Mother of the Bride

Whether you are the mother of the bride or mother of the groom, when choosing your wedding outfit be sure to select styles that flatter your figure type and are appropriate for the level of formality of the wedding. Floor length and ankle length dresses can be worn at weddings that take place after noon. However, a pant suit or pants and dressy jacket, etc. are also acceptable wedding clothing today. A classic style outfit is good because it does not look dated 10 years later in the best wedding photos. Also stay away from white, ivory, & vibrant colors or styles that will take attention away from the bride. It is her day and she is the star.

The mother of the bride (MOB) usually has a slight edge knowing first what color scheme the bride-to-be has chosen. She should choose an outfit that blends with the bridesmaids’ dresses. For instance if the bridesmaids’ are wearing light blue the MOB should look for something in a lighter or darker shade of blue or a blue print or something in a complimentary color.

Mother of the Groom

If possible the mother of the groom should be kept in the loop with the color scheme. After she finds out what the (MOB) has chosen she can look for something that co-ordinates with her outfit. One does not want to end up wearing the same exact color and/or style wedding outfit as the mother of the bride so it’s best to communicate with the bride and / or the MOB before selecting your bridal clothing.
