Are Stockings Obsolete?

Not many moons ago when the temperatures dropped, women put their stockings on and when the temperatures rose and the weather got hot and sticky, off came the stockings.

Today younger women are not wearing hosiery. You see them walking around big cities with bare legs in business attire as well as in casual clothing even in the cold weather.  One has to ask themselves, is this attractive and/or in good taste? Are stockings obsolete?

My feeling is common sense should prevail. Stockings are worn for warmth, to make a fashion statement or achieve a more polished look.  When things heat up, it is OK to go bare-legged, but really white legs look pretty dreadful any season of the year. Whenever you go bare- legged apply some bronzer or tanner to give bare legs a more attractive look or cover them up.

Fashion and image consultants say that wearing sheer nude color stockings with open-toe shoes and sandals is a no no. However, there are a few exceptions. You can wear open-toe style shoes with sandal foot textured, opaque, or darker color sheer (like gray, black, etc ), stockings or colored tights.

If you are uncomfortable wearing sandals or peep toe style shoes without hose, try to find skin color sandal foot hosiery. However, when you see women wearing stockings with sandals these days, the result is a webbed foot look which does not look that great. So another option is to wear a sling back shoe style for dressy occasions.

If you have an important event to attend or business meeting, stockings are in good taste and give you a more polished look.
