What's New

  • Spring Trends - Update Your Look

It is all about color. If in need of a pick me up for spring something in one of the brilliant spring colors will do the trick. Designers are using sizzling oranges, reds, greens, lavenders, mustard yellows, hot pinks, and florals in their collections this spring. Black and white creations are very popular also and delicious sorbet pastels.

  • 2011 Hot Fall Trends

The hot colors for 2011 fall are rust colors, earthy colors, mauves (wine) and  grays.
Leather in every color for jackets, vests, skirts, and dresses along with fur trim on collars, gloves, sleeves, shoes, and skirts are strong. Hemlines are mostly knee length or below.

  • Manhattan Style - Street Fashion - Part 1

New York can be cool, warm hot or cold in the spring. The photos below of street fashions or current fashions were taken in early May in Manhattan over a one week period. The weather changes produced a number of takes on current fashion, style and trends. The two most important trends seem to be shoes, high heels (The wedge is very popular.) and color. Scarves continue to be a hot accessory as well as large handbags.

  • What Mom Really Wants This Mother’s Day

When I think luxury, I think champagne wishes and caviar dreams (Hello, eighties! Robin Leach, anyone?). That’s really not the case anymore though, is it? I feel like luxury – living a luxurious lifestyle – is so much more attainable these days. Sure, nice things still come at a price, but the perfect quality/value ratio is well within reach.
  • Pajamas and Pantsuits

Designers have given birth this season to fashion pajamas and pantsuits in wild, bold prints and abstract patterns. These fashion statements are not for the faint of heart. If you desire to be noticed these head to toe ensembles will turn heads. If you prefer not to stand out in a crowd they are not for you. The pants alone with a solid color top may work for some. You can combine a patterned jacket with a solid color bottom (skirt or pants).

  • Fashion Making Waves

Summer is just around the corner and one of this spring and summers strongest themes is the sea. Designers have explored the secret kingdom under water for inspiration. Sea shapes and sea colors are in abundance in spring and summer fashion collections. Designers are using coral, sea shells, seaweed, anemones, barnacles, shark teeth and more in their designs and /or fabrics for fashions.
  • Neoprene Stylish and Functional

Neoprene fabric has become one of this seasons favorite fabrics of designers. What is neoprene? "NEOPRENE is a synthetic rubber material designed to act flexibly, durably, and to resist breakdown by water. It is form fitting and resilient."* Originally used in wetsuits. Made in a wearable (without stiffness) fabric it allows designers to create shapes only possible by heavy duty canvass tailoring in the past. Qualities that make neoprene fabric a winner are its durability, functionality, weightlessness, and practicality.
  • Nail Fashion / New Nail Trends

"Nail art is exploding, designs and patterns are all over the place" said Sindy M, co- owner of Wild Orchid Nail Spa in San Francisco. Today fashion forward women are not choosing one nail polish color but trying combinations like 1/3 half moon look (hi French) and doing a lighter shade of color near the cuticle and a different polish shade towards their nail ends. Popular color shading combinations are grays, nudes, pastels, pinks, turquoise, and tans.
  • Moroccan Street Fashion

Moroccan fashion was a bit disappointing. The most colorful and creative clothing outfits were on Moroccan women in the countryside. City fashion has some wonderful color but most of the Moroccan fashions that we saw were not exciting. Today to be a citizen of Morocco you must be a Muslim. Probably that explains why there is very little Western clothing on women. Supposedly women have a choice of what to wear but there are "rules" according to a woman worker at a hotel where I stayed in at Marrakesh. Covering your head is a sign of respect in the Muslim religion. However I was told wealthy and well educated women will not wear a head cover all of the time. As you can see from my street fashion photos there are practically no women without head covers.
