The Sophisticated Peplum

By Yolanda Wright

Add Sophisticated Flare to Your Wardrobe

It’s the middle of summer 2012 and weather full of warmth and sunshine, so how do you style your romantic summer date or brunch with the girls? Peplum skirts and tops are an easy way to add sophisticated flare to your wardrobe. These figure flattering couture inspired shapes first graced the fashion scene in the forties when Christian Dior added bounces to the waistline of jackets as a part of the New Look. This season peplums have been revived and reinvented in tops, skirts and dresses. From vintage looks, to feminine and demure, or sleek and mod peplums are great ways to add a dressed up look to your wardrobe without being too overdressed.

These are great examples of good fit! A Peplum tops flair should start at smallest portion of waist and end at the hipbone.  A top can be worn with a pencil skirt, skinny jeans, or a pair of slim pants.  If you haven’t already taken on the bold color trends a peplum is a great way to start. Try orange or mint and if you’re wild enough a leopard print is fun too.
