Spring / Summer Trends 2008

Feminine, frothy, frilly, revealing, erotic, transparent, and luxury are adjectives used to describe the 2008 spring and summer fashions.

Colors

Bright colors like sunny yellow, hot pink, emerald green, royal blue, turquoise and orange are very big. Of course the classic spring / summer colors of white, khaki, sand, navy, pastels or black and white combinations are always in fashion.

Floral prints, graphic designs, checks, stripes and bold prints will be strong.

Hemlines

Hemlines are running longer this season dropping to mid calf or ankle, but minis and micro minis are here to stay (especially for the younger set).

Dresses

Some designers are showing long "patio" style dresses and long Victorian cotton skirts for day. Also, toga, caftans and loose sheath styles, are popular in light and airy feminine fabrics.

Fabrics 

Transparent and / or light-airy like silk fabrics, nylons, chiffons, and light weight cottons will be hot.

Pants

The biggest news in pants are wide or flared pant legs. Some designers are showing high waisted slacks that look best on the small waisted woman. Jodhpurs, dohtis and bloomer styles may show up.

Accessories

Accessories trimmed with feathers, ribbons, fringe, and bows are important. Metallic and Lucite trims, as well as, semi precious stones will be adorning some high end items.

Handbags

Finally there are a number of handbag styles available. Large handbags and clutches are still important, but bags with shoulder straps are re-appearing. The status bag is now a limited - edition bag. Also, the baguette bag has been resurrected.

Footwear

Shoes are variations of the pump, the flat and sandals. In general footwear has a more feminine look.

Coats & Jackets 

Trench style coats and jackets are still important. Saw more cropped style jackets than any other style.

Wrapping up, anything goes if it flatters you, fits you properly, is right for the occasion and age appropriate. That's what is considered in good taste. Create your own look but check out your current clothes before you add or update your Spring Summer wardrobe.
