Hemlines are Making A Downward Move

Short is no longer chic!

Short is no longer chic! Of course the mini skirt has not disappeared, but it is no longer as "Hot" as it has been in the past. The last couple of seasons designers have been adding longer length hemlines to some of their new styles. Dresses and skirts are creeping back in popularity with hemlines anywhere from the knees to the ankles. These longer length, retro inspired, hemlines are the hottest trend in women's fashion this season.

The new "in style" hemline is called the "shin-length". Skirts and dresses are available in many styles from swingy, flared, the sexy pencil, longer with a slit, and pleated. Designers are creating them in all types of fabrics (lace, sheer mesh, etc.). The new lengths have already descended to the streets in big cities like Manhattan and are appearing on the fashionistas.

Tall girls and women look great in the new shin-length. Short women won't find shin-length skirts that flattering. In fact they can make short women look frumpy and / or dowdy. So if you are short and want to look chic a hemline around mid knee or slightly below will do the trick this fall. Keep it narrow.

It's important to experiment with longer length dresses and skirts to find the most flattering style(s), color(s) and length(s) for you.

Always wear a skirt in the length that is most flattering on you. Trends come and go and today every hem length will be around. However you will see more long skirts from slightly above the knee to ankle length.

Wear with wedges, platforms, and ankle boots. Higher  heels look great with longer hemlines!
