10 Fashion Trends for Spring: 8 Great & 2 to Avoid!
|
By Ginger Burr There are always a few predictable fashion trends that, almost without exception, pop up every spring. Think back. When was the last time that floral prints, pastels and ruffles were not popular? Spring often tends to be an overly sweet, sometimes romantic, season. We hail in the warmer weather and our spirits rise. Everything looks new and fresh, lighter, and more fun, and fashion follows suit. This season’s trends are straying from that a bit which many women will be delighted to hear. Fabulous Spring Trends:· Teal is back! Finally! Away with the racks of dreary gray and unwearable yellow (although for those of you who look good in these colors you’ll still find some) and in with the color of the ocean and sky. It’s a color that even when it’s not your absolutely best is still lovely and evokes images of endless beaches, warm days, peace and deep beauty. Not to mention that it goes with every neutral! · Animal prints. It seems like every year for the past 23 years animal print (I’m talking prints that resemble animals not the actual skins or fur) has been touted as a hot trend. This season it is leopard and zebra. It offers a good balance of warm and cool options and is also being shown in unusual color combinations to bring a newer twist to an old favorite. · Ruffles. Ruffles have been popular for a few seasons now and what is nice about this trend is that the ruffle has been reinvented in so many different sizes, shapes and fabrics that if you are even slightly attracted to the idea of wearing ruffles you can most certainly find one that works for you. No longer relegated to the cloyingly sweet, they are often seen as adding a subtly soft (sometimes even edgy!) look to an outfit. For this reason, it has become a fun staple in many women’s closets. · Neutral Tones. Most of the trends this season are anything but simple and quiet. They are loud, obvious and full of energy. So, the popularity of neutral tones offers some balance to the otherwise frenetic feel of the styles. The good thing about this is that you will find a wide variety of quiet neutrals from beige and cream to champagne and white so you can be sure to find your most flattering shade. In fact, check out the beautiful selection of nude colored shoes and booties. · Dresses. Thankfully, dresses are still here – hopefully, to stay. They take so much less work than trying to create a winning skirt and top combination, and you can toss one on with a great pair of shoes and your favorite jewelry and you’re done. I remember a 15-year drought when you couldn’t find a day dress to save your life, so please let the designers know that this trend is a keeper! · Draping & Ruching. Do you want to wear something fitted but worry about lumps and bumps showing? That can all be camouflaged very effectively and stylishly with strategically placed drapes of fabric and ruching (gathers of fabric). This trend is a girls’ best friend! · Accessories are Hot! This is the season to go wild with accessories. Everything is big, bright, and there’s lots of it. Wear necklaces, bangle bracelets, earrings, scarves, and belts. Whether your overall theme is warrior princess, tribal, gothic theme, or simply bold and chunky the important part is that it makes a huge statement and expresses your personality. ![]() What to Avoid?Every season has its ups and downs. This season’s downs have hit rock bottom! · Ripped and Torn Jeans: They call it cutting edge but unless you’re under 25 (and even then it’s questionable) save it for around the house. What is the appeal in looking so sloppy? · Underwear as Outwear: Unless you really know how to make this trend look elegant, skip it. It can very easily (and most often) translate into trashy. So, get ready to shop! This spring season promises to be anything but boring offering many fabulous options for expressing your personality. |
