Expressing Gratitude to Others Pays Big Dividends

The electronic age has fostered the expectation of quick responses and what's next. Patience has been replaced by the desire for instant gratification, i.e. texting, which implies a desire for a swift response. Momentary pleasure and enjoyment is replaced by the expectation of what's next. Savoring the joys of the moment are overshadowed by the apprehension and curiosity of what is to come.
What often gets left behind or not attended to, in part due to the electronic age influences, is the simple but powerful use of the concept of "thank you". Verbal thank yous are often considered sufficient and are better than no acknowledgment of what someone has done for you. But if you wish to convey to somebody your appreciation for their efforts at adding to your life's pleasure, you need to take time to communicate your feelings beyond a simple "thank you".
Expressing gratitude to others pays big dividends in their regard for you. So if you wish to have a valued friend, colleague or family member, take the time to write an expression of your appreciation. A card, sent by snail mail or e-mail, with a personal note will stand out. Short of that an e-mail will go a long way to showing that you recognize someone went out of their way for you.
Don't waste an opportunity to make an impression on someone who influences your life. Use the power of a properly expressed "thank you".
