Grace Kelly (1929-1982)

Princess Grace
Style, Beauty, Good Taste

photo Virgil Apger

Style, beauty and good taste are qualities most women would be happy to achieve. These qualities were attributed to Grace Kelly by her contemporaries and fans. Just about every girl wants to be a movie star at some point. As we age we aspire to look good and demonstrate good taste. Few women can have it all like Princess Grace.

If you are traveling to London a rare treat is in store whether you are a fashionista, voyer of style and fashion or just love glamour.  The Victoria and Albert Museum has just opened an exhibit “Grace Kelly: Style Icon.” The exhibit is open through September 26, 2010. This exhibit shows an evolution in Grace Kelly's clothing from movie star to royalty.

“Grace Kelly: Style Icon” is a rare opportunity to view clothing by designers including Christian Dior, Balenciaga and Givenchy, etc. It includes costumes Princess Grace wore in movies like High Society and Rear Window, dresses made for her trousseau and wedding and outfits from her wardrobe as Princess of Monaco.

Grace Kelly made 11 films during her career as an actress. She gave up show business when she married Prince Rainier of Monaco to raise a family and devote herself to charitable and cultural activities.

Princess Grace favored the classic, and understated look wearing simple shirtwaist dresses and casual shirts with pants. After her marriage to Prince Rainier Princess Grace became associated with French fashion houses.

Until her premature death in a car accident, Princess Grace remained a media favorite.
