Starting A New Job?

Tips to Help You Succeed

  • Attempt to meet people you will be working with before you start a job.
  • Clarify the jobs description to know what is expected of you.
  • Listen instead of talking. There is a learning curve for all new jobs.
  • Learn to fit in.
  • Ask for feedback from your boss after a few weeks.
  • Get to know your peers and office support staff.

  • Don't be afraid to get advice from co-workers on projects.
  • Takes about 6 months to observe who holds the power. Then look for a mentor.  Someone who can help you achieve a position that you aspire to attain in the next few years.
  • Don't be afraid to take on extra tasks.
  • Complete assignments ahead of time.
  • Ask for a review after 90 days (3 months) on the job. Begin to set some long-term professional goals.
  • Enroll in the company's 401 plan and/or other benefit plans.
  • Don't gossip.
  • Don't divulge any proprietary information about other firms you have worked for as your integrity will be questioned.
