Hi there, this site is great!!!! I'm needing to sort out my winter wardrobe and I'm "fashion deaf". I have no idea what to buy, what looks good etc. I have a pear shaped body and am tall and battle to choose clothes. I end up with a wardrobe that is mismatched and of no use to me. Any tips would be great, I dont even know what color suits me to start building a wardrobe. How can you tell?

             

First look in your closet and pick out 3 or 4 pieces of clothing that you like and that fit you well. What color are they and what style are they? You want to determine 1 neutral color (black, navy, grey or brown/camel). Then when you are ready to go shopping choose pieces in that color for basics like pants, skirts, dresses. Next select pieces like tops in colors that go with the neutral color you have chosen. So if you decide navy is your favorite neutral buy only things that go with navy. As far as figure type since you are pear shaped you want to draw attention to your top half. Styles that look good on pear shaped bodies are: boot legged pants (pants wider at the bottom), A line skirts (flared) because they minimize your hips, and horizontal striped or colored tops will give you width across the shoulder area to balance your hips. Boat, draped, square and rounded necklines give an illusion of width in the shoulder area. Fitted tops are most flattering on pear shaped women. Halter tops will also give the illusion of wider shoulders also. Wear the tops with solid color pants or skirts.

Look for halter and empire style dress that fit well. They are the most flattering styles for a pear shaped woman. Since you are tall the new "kitten" shoe style will be a very feminine choice.

To look good you need well fitting undergarments, an up-to-date hairstyle, flattering make up and a good tailor for alterations.
