What's New

My Company's annual birthday party is coming up and my co-workers are asking what the attire should be. The company does not want people to dress formally, at the same time we want to provide flexibility for everyone to dress up a little, if they so wish. Do you think I can suggest "cocktail attire", or is that still too formal? Do you have any better suggestions? Thank you very much, I am a big fan of your expert advice!

"Country Club Casual" might define what is required better than "Cocktail Attire" and will allow for flexible clothing options at your Company's annual birthday party. "Country Club Casual" means more fashionable than everyday work attire. It implies business casual and a sport jacket is optional. "Cocktail Attire" suggests dressy clothing and might send the wrong message to your co-workers. Most country clubs do not allow denim jeans so if you do not want co-workers to wear jeans be sure to let them know.
