What's New

What color and style dress should I wear to my daughter's April wedding? Her only request is that I don't look matronly or like a grandmother. Her wedding colors are teal and black. Her dress is ivory/champagne color. I am glad she is giving me such freedom, but I want all to look back at the pictures and it look put together. She may care at some point. I'm 42 years old, 5"3 with a petite frame.

You are not very old and it sounds like you have a nice figure so there is no reason that you should look matronly at your daughter's wedding. You have a number of color choices. You can wear a teal color dress that is lighter or darker than the attendants in the wedding party or a neutral color like beige or gray. Black is another option today. Choose a more classic / tailored style of dress since you are only 5'3" and wear gorgeous jewelry with it to draw attention to you face area. A classic style dress will not look out dated in pictures 10 years from now. The style of the dress should flatter your figure. If it's a formal wedding you can wear a long dress. Otherwise a cocktail style dress will look good. Be sure it fits perfectly! Don't be afraid to consult a personal shopper or stylist to help you find yhe right dress.
