I rarely paint my fingernails. If I do I go with a clear or french manicure. Is it tacky to wear toes one color & fingernails another?

It is perfectly chic to wear a different color nail polish on your fingernails and your toenails. A clear color polish and a colored polish work well together. Using one color like pink on your fingernails and a different color on your toes (red) looks tacky.

If your nails are too short you may want to go with a clear color polish that does not call attention to your hands and wear a color on your toenails.. The same goes for your toe nails; if you do not want to call attention to your toes and feet area choose a clear color.

A clear polish helps your nails look nice longer because chipping does not show like it does when colored nail polish chips. Choose color nail polish for special events and only when you want to call attention to your hands and feet.
