I am short and overweight so my legs/calves are thick and I worry that my legs don't look good (possibly making me look even shorter) in the taller cowgirl boots. Can you please help me understand the fashion rules as they apply to shorts or skirts & boots for someone whose got a short/stocky stature? My mother is 5'3" and is quite small in the shoulders, bust and arms. She carries her weight in her stomach and lower belly area and that area is quite large. What is the best type of shirt she can buy that will flatten her figure. She wears mens oversized clothes and if she wears woman's clothing that is usually too tight on the bottom. She feels terrible about herself and I want her to feel great about herself.

I'm 25 and a UK size 18/20 and really very conscious about my weight. I'm 5'5", 130 lbs, with a very well defined waist. I love shirt-waist dresses. Inevitably, though, dresses with "set-in" waists hit me at the bottom of my ribcage, not at my waist. I've measured and there's only about 5 inches from the bottom of my bra to my waist so I guess I'm not long-waisted. But I can't imagine I'm short-waisted since dresses already hit me too high.
