Fashion Questions: What to Wear to Black Tie or White Tie Events

I am going to a white tie affair April 10. I know that it is a very formal affair and that it will be Spring at that time. I live in Wash. DC and it is for a
Fashionable Ball. I am not sure what color would be best and does it have to be a long gown?

A white tie affair is very formal and you should wear a long gown. You will never go wrong with a beautiful black dress. However since it is in April a lovely spring color is also appropriate. When choosing your dress for this event be sure it flatters your figure type and coloring.

I am wearing a Nicole Miller knee length silver dress to a black tie event. What color shoes would look best with this?

You have a number of choices as far as color goes. However since it is black tie (formal), try silver metallic or black. Choose a dressy style shoe like sandals, peep-toes or sling backs.

I am attending a black tie event in November. The dress I have is a silk floor length, sleeveless, with a rounded neckline. The material is a turquoise color with metallic thread in gold and silver from top to bottom. Is it appropriate to wear a silk dress in November to a black tie event?

From your description the dress sounds fine.  Garments made from silk are appropriate all year round. Silk  is a dressy fabric and a silk dress is appropriate for a black tie occasion in November. Keep the jewelry simple since the dress has a lot of metallic woven in it.

Do I need to wear a long (floor length) dress or skirt to a black tie event?

It is not necessary to wear a floor length dress or skirt to a black tie event. An outfit made from a dressy fabric in a flattering length for your height and figure type is the best solution. If the occasion is business related choose an outfit that is more covered up. You want to present a professional competent message about yourself in business situations.
