Fashion Advice for Women, Questions and Style Tips

January 2012

Featured Fashion Question

Dear Cathie,

Can short girls wear high-waisted pants?

High waisted pants draw attention to your waist area and are most flattering on small waisted women. Short girls with small waists and narrow hips can wear narrow leg high waisted pants. Some styles of high waisted pants can make the hip area look larger. Tall slim females look best in high waisted pants with wide legs.  Wear fitted tops tucked in at your waistline with this style of pants. More Questions & Answers...

Exfoliating is Essential During Winter

It was several years ago during a trip to the Wella Global Exchange that I discovered just how beneficial it was to exfoliate during the winter.  The month was February, and the location - Puerto Rico. After the usual holiday season rush in the salon and a few months of enduring the rain and cold, traveling to this warm location was such a delight. One afternoon after enjoying a soak in the warm salty surf and getting some sun on the beach, I returned to my hotel room to get ready for the evening orientation. Read More...

Fitness Goals for the New Year

Losing weight continues to be the number one New Year's Resolution and if that's to become a long term reality, exercise is an important part of the equation.  When it comes to fitness goals, ideally they should include something specific for every component of fitness that you need to focus on.  These might include muscle endurance, muscle strength, cardiovascular endurance and /or flexibility. To make the goal measurable, consider the amount of time, type of activity (cycling, weight lifting, swimming, etc.), intensity, frequency and progression for each goal. Read More...

New Year Opportunity

As the calendar sends out the message of a new year, we are reminded of the age old custom of adopting New Year resolutions. The best place to start is to look backward at last year's goals. What did I fail to do or to achieve in 2011 that I hoped for at or near the start of 2011? Is there any hope that I can change enough in 2012 to achieve the desired outcome? Read More...

Trend - Personalize!

Monogramming was once a perogative of the wealthy, but it has been mainstream for awhile. It is now getting to be fashionable to have your initials put on shirts, leather goods, handbags and even Prada will put initials on sunglass arms and some bags. If you visit the Louis Vuitton website you can customize several of their bags.  Something with initials on it makes a great gift.

Mixing Up Your Prints - Prints on Prints

Designers are moving away from the tried and true into a psychadelic or edgy mode mixing prints with florals, prints with prints and prints with florals and stripes for spring 2012. Mixed up prints on florals with stripes will be difficult to wear. Layering prints will be a popular trend but some one piece dresses will have clashing prints. Can you wear this trend to work? Might be more of a fashion statement for social ocassions. The shorter woman might be over powered with too much mixing. If in doubt whether to wear a mixture of prints it's better to be on the safe side and don't.
