In honor of breast cancer awareness month 2011, I would like to focus on the treatment and recovery side so that my fellow sisters can start to see their own healing begin.
First, I have had several clients over the years who have gone through their own journey of healing from breast cancer, and have given me the brilliant suggestion which I am now passing to my readers. It is simple, but makes sense that once chemotherapy has begun and before the hair begins to fall out, make a move to empower yourself by shaving your head. This will put the issue of losing your locks in your hands and avoid the shock of losing clumps of hair without warning. Again, anything to take yourself from victim to an assertive state of mind is so valuable.
Once your hair does begin to grow back, you may notice that the texture has changed. Those that had straight hair before treatment could find that they now have a wave or curl to their hair...so go with it! Embrace your beautiful new hair and have your stylist give you an up to the minute short hair cut so that until you are at your desired length, you can sport a look of sophistication. Who knows, maybe it will become your new signature look!
