Deconstructed Make-up For A Natural Look

By Whitney Jones

This Summer’s Hot Look
Means Eye Shadows with Creases, Visible Lines in Lipstick,
Hair That is Flowing and Light Makeup

 Summer 2011 Lanvin fashion show

“Flawless” isn’t the word this season to describe makeup. Try words  like "messy", "natural" and "deconstructed".

Mac’s Big Bounce Shadows are leading the way for the messy fresh look. The formula feels like a weightless gel and is easiest to put on using your fingers. It can be worn alone, but it’s also great as a powder eye shadow base.  Worn either way, you’ll start to see minimal creasing in anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour.

Another way to achieve the look is by using a silicone-based eye shadow primer and putting on eye shadow immediately before it dries. The powder will mix with the base and create an instantly creased look. Use slightly more primer than you normally would, or it won’t work. Blink a few times once the shadow has been applied for the perfect deconstructed look.  Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance is the perfect primer to get this look

Lipstick is getting in on the trend as well. Reds just a shade darker than your natural lip color are the most popular this season. For the deconstructed look, use any lipstick that isn’t a moisturizing formula, but put it on thinly. Blot it with paper until you can clearly see fade lines. Swipe a light lip liner on and you’re ready to go. Nude shades will work just as well and take the look a step beyond.

Even hairstyles can begin the natural transformation. Tousled hair / curls and styles that could have just come from the beach are trending right now. They’re easy to do with a large barreled curling iron and a little time. Pony tails are also being jazzed up with tiny flower child braids. Loose hair is being spruced up with hair feathers for the ultra beach look. Short hair is all about texture and styling chunks of hair together for that just got out of bed look.

Keep the bronzer on hand and put the foundation back on the shelf. Even when it requires some work, the natural look will translate easily from the board room to the beach.
